At Agoda, part of Booking Holdings, we build scalable and fault-tolerant systems that host core business logic. As a Backend Engineering Manager, you will be hands-on with coding and architecture while leading and developing world-class engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
Be hands on by writing and reviewing code and providing expert-level coaching and guidance to engineers.
Design elegant systems at scale and stay in touch with industry trends for system architecture and maintenance.
Do full stack engineering across infrastructure, client side, back end, performance, and data.
Develop people by inspiring them to achieve their potential and integrating new talent into the business.
Requirements
Extremely proficient in at least 1 programming language such as Java, Scala, or C
Strong experience in systems architecture for complex, scalable, and fault tolerant distributed systems
Demonstrable experience as a system owner with operational responsibility
Proficient in lower level engineering including garbage collection, context switching, and threading
Familiarity with DevOps culture, agility, leanness, automation, and CI/CD
Good understanding of application security
Must have worked in a successful agile development team
Must have run engineering teams before with 5+ direct reports
Able to operate autonomously with a strong sense of ownership
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in more than one programming language
