The Cisco Optical Network Controller team is building next-generation SDN software to automate and control optical networks using a cloud-native microservices architecture. Engineers have end-to-end quality and feature ownership, building backend services in Java and automated tests in Python.
Key Responsibilities
Design, implement, and maintain scalable microservices in Java (Spring Boot / REST / gRPC).
Write comprehensive unit, integration, and end-to-end automated tests in Python.
Integrate automated Python test suites into CI/CD pipelines.
Work closely with Technical Leads and Product Managers in an Agile Scrum model.
Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree with 1 to 3 years of hands-on software development experience.
Strong foundation in Core Java, OOP design patterns, data structures, and RESTful microservices.
Practical experience writing clean Python automation scripts for API and functional validation.
Hands-on familiarity with Docker and basic Kubernetes.
Working knowledge of databases and messaging systems like Kafka or RabbitMQ.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with Optical Networking / SDN concepts, YANG data modeling, or NETCONF/RESTCONF protocols.
