Northern Trust is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the architecture, engineering, and governance of enterprise-grade AKS platforms within the Cloud Foundation framework.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design, build, and evolution of a Centralized AKS platform aligned to Cloud Foundation strategy.
Drive standardization and reusable platform capabilities across AKS environments.
Architect and manage central AKS clusters with strong isolation and scalability.
Define and enforce platform governance, security, and compliance standards.
Implement GitOps-driven platform operations using ArgoCD.
Drive automation using Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform.
Integrate AKS with enterprise-grade services including Azure Networking and Identity & Access.
Enable secure workload onboarding into central AKS clusters.
Implement policy enforcement and security controls including Azure Policy and OPA/Gatekeeper.
Lead platform reliability engineering, incident management, and performance optimization.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
15+ years of total work experience in Technology Infrastructure with 10+ years in Cloud Engineering and Azure Kubernetes.
Strong experience in Centralized AKS platform design and operations.
Deep experience with ArgoCD for GitOps-based deployments.
Experience with Helm charts and deployment standardization.
Strong knowledge of Azure Networking, Identity, and Security.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and mentoring capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with multi-cloud environments such as AWS/EKS.
Exposure to service mesh.
Certifications including Azure Solutions Architect Expert or CKA/CKAD.
