Git is something every developer uses daily, yet most of us picked it up by trial and error. The result? Confusing history, painful merge conflicts and the occasional "who committed this password?" moment. 😅
Here are five small habits that make a big difference when you work in a team:
1️⃣ Commit small, commit often. One idea per commit makes reviews faster and mistakes easy to undo.
2️⃣ Write messages that explain why. "fix: retry upload when network drops" tells your team far more than "updated".
3️⃣ Pull before you push. A quick git pull --rebase keeps you in sync and your history clean.
4️⃣ Never commit secrets. API keys, passwords and .env files belong in .gitignore, never in your repository history.
5️⃣ Review your own diff first. A quick git diff --staged catches typos, debug logs and leftover code before anyone else sees them.
None of these take more than a few seconds, but together they make you the teammate everyone loves to review code from. ▶️ Watch the short video for the quick version.
