Your Code Works. But Is It Ready for Production?
Writing code that works on your machine is one thing. Building software that works reliably for thousands of users is another!
Here are 5 things I consider before calling a feature complete:
Error Handling: What happens when an API fails?
Performance: Does the feature remain fast with large amounts of data?
Security: Are user inputs validated and sensitive information protected?
Testing: Have edge cases been checked, not just the happy path?
Maintainability: Can another developer understand and update the code easily?
A feature isn't truly finished just because it works once. It should be reliable, secure, and easy to maintain.
My takeaway: Don't just write code that works. Build software you can trust.
Developers, what's the first thing you check before shipping a feature to production?
