⚡ Your API might not be slow. Your database queries might be.
A Spring Boot endpoint takes 2 seconds to respond.
What's your first reaction?
❌ Add more CPU.
❌ Increase the server size.
❌ Rewrite the entire service.
But sometimes, the real problem is an N+1 query issue.
Imagine fetching 100 users and triggering a separate database query for each user's profile.
Instead of one optimized query, you might execute 101 queries.
Here's what I'd investigate first:
🔹 Enable SQL query logging in development.
🔹 Inspect query execution plans.
🔹 Check Hibernate fetch strategies.
🔹 Use projections or fetch joins where appropriate.
🔹 Measure performance before and after the fix.
The best optimization isn't always adding more resources. Sometimes, it's eliminating unnecessary work.
How do you usually identify database bottlenecks in production?
