Accessibility Should Be a Feature, Not an Afterthought!
As an iOS developer, I believe building a great app means making it usable for everyone, not just users who interact with their devices in the same way.
While working with SwiftUI, one thing I keep reminding myself is that even small design decisions can make a big difference in someone's experience.
Here are a few things every iOS developer should consider:
Support Dynamic Type: Make sure text remains readable when users increase their preferred font size.
Use VoiceOver-friendly labels: Buttons and interactive elements should communicate their purpose clearly to assistive technologies.
Check color contrast: Important information shouldn't depend on color alone.
Test real interactions: Accessibility testing should be part of the development process, not something left until the final release.
Build accessibility into every release: Fixing issues early makes apps more inclusive and reduces rework later.
Great user experiences aren't only about beautiful interfaces or smooth animations. They're about removing barriers and helping people use technology confidently.
I'm continuing to explore better accessibility practices in SwiftUI and would love to learn from other developers working on inclusive iOS experiences.
iOS developers: What's one accessibility improvement you believe every app should implement?
