Accessibility Isn't an Extra Feature — It's Part of Good iOS Development!
When building iOS apps, it's easy to focus on beautiful UI and smooth animations. But a great app should also be usable by people with different abilities.
Here are 5 things every iOS developer should consider:
1. Support VoiceOver
Use meaningful accessibility labels so users can understand buttons, images, and other interface elements.
2. Respect Dynamic Type
Allow text to scale with the user's preferred font size without breaking the layout.
3. Use Clear Contrast
Ensure text and important UI elements are easy to distinguish.
4. Make Controls Easy to Use
Provide appropriate touch targets and clear feedback for interactions.
5. Test With Accessibility Tools
Use Accessibility Inspector and real-device testing to identify issues early.
With SwiftUI, accessibility modifiers such as accessibilityLabel, accessibilityHint, and accessibilityIdentifier can help make interfaces more understandable and testable.
My takeaway: Accessibility isn't just about compliance. It's about building better experiences for more people.
